I directed short film, Sunrise, as part of a Women in Film, Lionsgate, Stephenie Meyer, and Volvo initiative, The Storytellers: New Voices of the Twilight Saga, which paired female Directors with female fan-fiction writers to develop adaptations of mini-stories from within the Twilight universe. I chose to direct the only non-white story featuring the Egyptian Vampires, Benjamin and Tia. Benjamin was played by Rami Malek* in the original movies, and Arash Marandi, actor from Ana Lily Amirpour’s vampire film, A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night, in Sunrise.
Set in 1800 Egypt, Benjamin, an orphan gifted with the ability to create fire is torn away from Tia, his one true love, when turned into a vampire. Years later, he escapes to find her forced into a loveless marriage. Could this relationship finally spark?
The Twilight Storyteller Short Films premiered at Arclight on July 13th, 2015. Sunrise has received over 3 million views on facebook, where the film can be watched here: here: https://www.facebook.com/twilight/videos/10153123887745674
